    HI

I have been using the Luas for the last 2 years, on a monthly basis, via TaxSaver tickets I get through work.

Ticket cost €80 per month, and work deduct €80 per month from my salary

    If I look on the Luas.ie site, a monthly green Zone 1 – 3 = €80 - non taxsaver prices.

Can somebody please tell me where exactly is the TaxSaver bit, and how do I understand if I am actually saving anything, and paying less tax?

    Thanks

The cost is deducted from your gross salary.

As a result, you pay less PAYE, PRSI and USC. They are based on the reduced amount.

You would need to do a tax computation without the ticket adjustment to see what your individual impact is.

The taxsaver bit is that the price of the ticket is (or at least should be!) deducted from your gross pay, and so you are not subject to PAYE, etc. on the price of it. Hence the overall impact on your net pay is less than 80 euro. If you buy it from the machine, however, you are paying the full 80 out of your net earnings.
