    GLONASS

    GPS Enabled - Yes
    GLONASS - Yes

so i wonder does it really have both, or are they assuming most people will use GPS as a catch all phrase for a positioning mechanism.

if it's only GLONASS it'll be an expensive toy if the russians pull the funding for it again.

now, to try and find out if the minimum pool length has been dropped from the 20m on the 910 to the 15m on the garmin swim. big factor for those of us stuck in a 17m pool

Why in the name of all that's wonderful does anyone want to see email, text or other alerts on their watch in a 1" square

cause Samsung and apple said it was a good idea....

seriously though, wait till strava start sending out text alerts to tell you of an upcoming segment, and what the KOM time is on it. actually if linked to your phone it doesn't even need a text. you'll get a warning coming up to it, and real time tracking against the KOM.

Both. GPS accuracy is not consistent globally.

It will have the drill function of the swim which is nice.

neither is glonass though right? i thought it was better in northern parts, but worsened as you went south, as the russians focused mainly on home?

    some sort of averaging maybe

Coupled with the IQ framework we will see this.

"Given the current GPS and GLONASS constellations there is now a clear advantage when using GPS and GLONASS together for high precision positioning in mobile applications where there are obstructions to the sky. The GPS and GLONASS receivers are able to maintain RTK Integer at times when GPS-only receivers cannot. The dual-frequency GPS and GLONASS receivers are able to resolve ambiguities faster. "

    GLONASS coverage
    http://www.oxts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/600_GLONASS_Coverage_Sep10.gif

Okay the coverage aspect isn't huge, the locks without clear skies is.

Much nicer & neater looking package than the 910XT but at £150 premium over the outgoing model at the moment it would want to have some really useful additional bells & whistles. Maybe the 910 will start dropping below £200 now?

given the ability to transmit data outside of the profiles, if someone developed an ant+ tire pressure sensor, you could remove one of the variabilities of turbo trainers and correct for different tire pressures. this would make estimating power etc a lot more feasible on a turbo.

irrelevant with a pm anyway but it indicates the possibilities. the non profile transfer could be very very sweet. i missed the significance when you mentioned it first

    This exist AFAIK.

Where it would be GREAT is with computrainers and similar that can be influenced by tyre pressure changing due to heat. Change the offset without calibration based on tyre pressure on the fly......

should be straight forward enough i'd have thought if the pressure sensors exist.

    actually i don't anymore.

but even then, what i was working on was a long way away from ant+

would they need to? it's ant+, so they should be transmitting the raw data anyway, it's computrainer would have to write the software i'd have thought

AFAIK it's numerically the same price for the same packages. Obviously ie $539 including new strap. the currency changes things. Us Euros subsidise the yanks. Much like the dubs and the culchies :)

Slowtwitch are saying on thier indepth review:rolleyes:

MSRP for the watch $449.99 and $499.99 for the premium heart rate monitor bundle.

So what benefits do you think this watch will bring to improve an athletes training?

All i want in a watch is it to be waterproof, have a tri function, tell me hr,speed, cadence and have a wifi functionality that automatically uploads to Training peaks. I already have my garmin edge for the bike.
Is there cheaper garmin watches out there that will do all this?

An impressive piece of equipment, but is it worth the cash in comparsion to the 910XT. The 910Xt is available for 360eur (see link below) with HRM opposed to the 920XT is 540eur with HRM. 180eur is alot of cash.

    http://www.phonesonline.ie/garmin-forerunner-910-xt-hrm-gps-training-watch.html

Worth noting that I currently do not own a Garmin/Polar or similar sports watch and am looking to purcahse my first for next season.

Just looking at the new features of the 920XT I have attempted to put a value on what each is worth to me, admittedly I do not fully understand some and am new to the sport but would be interested it other's opinions.

New Feature Of 920XT over 910 XT
0 – Addition of Bluetooth Smart, WiFi connectivity
10 – Addition of Daily Activity Tracking (steps, Sleep, etc…)
0 – Ability to create Internet connected apps, widgets, data fields (Connect IQ)
0 – Addition of Live Tracking (requires you carry a phone)
0 – A Color Screen (that actually really shows colors)
0 – Creation of Activity Profiles (allows you to create your own)
20 – Running Dynamics (Vertical Oscillation, Ground Contact Time, Cadence)
20 – Recovery Advisor, Recovery Time, Race Predictor
    0 – Cycling VO2Max
    0 – PR’s (Personal Records)
    0 – Regular Watch Mode
0 – UltraTrac (for up to 40 hours of GPS activity…with ANT+ sensor data)
10 – Addition of GLONASS (for increased GPS accuracy)
0 – Garmin VIRB action camera control
    10 – Indoor Treadmill support (without a footpod pace/distance)
    – Metronome Functionality
20 – Swimming Drill mode (as found on Garmin Swim, Fenix2)
20 – Swimming Interval Rest Timer
20 – Racing against past performances, downloaded performances
    10 Smaller
    10 Lighter
    0 New colours

i'll give you a great price on my 910 when i get my 920..:)

the numbers you assigned, how did you arrive at them? connectiq = 0? they seem pretty arbitrary. what do you want from the watch?

Numbers are just based on what I am looking for from a watch and I did admit that I am no expert and only started researching last week!

Id put a significant value on the 12month Garmin warrenty!

no, that's fair enough, you're prioritising the right stuff in my books.

whether it's wprth it or not only you can answer. some of the stuff you ranked is only worth it if you like sifting through data afterwards. is that you?

Currently just useing Strava and find myself looking back over the small amount of data that I have,

Would be great also GLONASS technology measured distance accurately in open water, I understand this is one of the issue with the 910. But wont know this until someone reports back.

I'm just highlighting the things which I think you have definitely undervalued (IMO) or possibly missed the potential of.

Wifi connectivity - watch sync with Connect over wifi. Walk into house after session, no more 20min over ANT sessions by the PC. Your data is synced before you are done showering and sitting down with a coffee. Effortless.

Internet apps & fields - have a look at Suunto's Movescount.com to see the sort of stuff that is potentially out there. It allows other developers to come up with their own apps, and enables them to be shared. EG a field test for run or bike testing. Loads of potential there.

Activity Profiles - outside of the standard run, bike, swim, you can now tailor the sports profiles to suit you. Create your own (something I can do on Polar  ) for kayaking, trekking, hillwalking etc. You can set up the profile with bespoke GPS or HR recording rates and other settings. Very handy.

Otherwise, bang on the money with your assessment I think.

Like all my previous ones I picked them up in the states. The warranty lock down is a right stinger, well for the consumer, not the Irish shop owners!

If wiggle only had it now that would be sweet as have 17% member discount with them
