So my head is fried with what to replace my hp a6332 amd phenom 9500 with.

I'm thinking an i5 cpu for performance and it will mostly be used for browsing and home media with some non demanding photo and video (for youtube) editing, no gaming.

I've spotted a dell inspiron 3847 (sorry don't know how to do links) for €509 and am thinking I would find it hard to beat with a first home build. I'm guessing that the graphics may be the weak point here but good hd playback would suffice, so it may fit the bill.
Is there a glaring deficiency I am missing with it for what I would call a good all round multimedia home pc.

    Thanks in advance

I misread your post, the problem with ordering from dell is that the power supplies are only equipped for what's in the system, and the parts are of generally lower quality than would you'd buy for the same price online. Maybe they're different nowadays but I doubt it. They're not easily upgradeable either.

I'm sure some of the gurus will be able to help you out

This chap has build a pretty powerful pc for similar money. If you can wire a plug you can build a pc.

The dell machines, are ok but you pay a major premium.

The video card is weak but i guess you said it wont be used for gaming, i can't find any spec on the PSU with that pc, it's probably cheap as chips. IMO it's not a bad PC for that price although you'd build one yourself with higher spec for the same money, maybe even less than 500.

Create a seperate thread with a list of your needs and i'm sure a few of the guys here will spec up a nice build for you, even if you decide against it it's surely no harm to see what you can get for 500 these days.
