Is it likely to work? I have a set of wheels with a Campag freehub and it's not easy or cheap to source a Shimano freehub body for them. I can get a 10 speed Veloce cassette for a decent price, but is it likely to work OK with my 6600 (or maybe 6700) rear mech?

I don't think, you'll have a problem with the rear mech, however, I don't think, you'll get perfect shifting with Shimano shifters and Campy cassette.

    What shifters?
If Ultegra then its doubtful as the pull ratio in the shifter is different to he spacing on the Campy cassette.
You could take the Veloce cogs and see if you can get 105 spacers between them and the you would have the right spacing.
But you may not get the spacers on.

I think you can get a device to change the pull ratio in the rear cassette so it would work. might do the trick. our saviour sheldon browne talks about it on sheldonbrowne.com

My turbo wheel is a Campag freehub and cassette and works fine shifting with Ultegra shifters and Ultegra rear mech. All 10spd. Haven't tried it out on road though but assume it would be ok too...

A Campag 10s wheel in conjunction with a Shimano system (assuming that you have matching derailleurs and STi levers) will work OK, but it won't be perfect - Campag sprocket spacing is not far different from Shimano on average but Campag space their sprockets differentially over the width of the cassette, Shimano's are evenly spaced.

We occasionally have to use Shimano cassettes in Campag bikes & vice versa in a neutral service situation if we are having a particularly heavy day for punctures and the indexing is tolerable for experienced riders who allow for it when getting out of the saddle etc.

If you have the luxury of time, you can fine index over sprockets 5 and 6 and you'll find the index will be OK over the middle span of 5 or 6 sprockets, getting gradually ropier as you go to the extremes of the cassette - doing it this way averages the cumulative error you would get otherwise, indexing from the hardest gear down.

If the bike has had a Shimano rear wheel in it previously, don't forget to check the limit screws - they may be set slightly differently - if they are (or TBH, even if the aren't), I would start from sratch, check the hanger fixing to the frame, hanger alignment, attachment of RD to hanger, limit screws and then cable up and index. Takes time but always worth it. If you are going to try and get the system to work in a way it wasn't intended to, best verify the basics before you start to monkey around ....

yeah - something like that. I have never used them, but some people have with no problems. At 32 quid I would imagine it's not much more expensive than the veloce cassette

Seems the Ambrosio cassettes will do Campag spacing on Shimano splines but not the other way round.
