Currently with eircom for broadband. Quite bad, lights on box constantly flickering. I have been told that if I change my provider it will not be any better as any provider will be using he eircom network and if it doesn't have the capacity to give better reception a different provider cannot improve situation. Is this true ??

It may be. If your line is pretty bad then there is nothing that another provider can do.

Does the internet light keep going red? How far are you from the exchange? By reception what do you mean? WiFi?

If you're stuck, there is always the option for fixed wireless (if line of sight) or 3G/4G if ADSL isn't suitable.

Thank you for reply. I live only 3 miles from Waterford city, so assume I must be close to exchange. Sometimes Internet light is red, bit more often flashing green. Wi fi and internet just desperately slow. I wil try to make enquiries about other network as per your suggestion.

Are you near any neighbours? Is it possible someone could be on your WiFi? I would recommend you change your WiFi password first and rule out any errors on your side.

If the green internet light is flashing on your modem that would signal to me (pardon the pun) that there are devices online downloading something.

Reset your modem and change the password from the default to something else, see if that changes anything.

UPC use a different network so if they are available in your area you could try them? Sky piggy back on the eircom line as well as other smaller networks which could be why you were given the info that you mentioned. But as i said, UPC may not have service in your area....
