Welger v McHale

Going buying a baler for next year. Have my tractor changed and ready to do my own. The only 2 balers that I would buy would be the welger rp 235 or the McHale f550. But which one is better. The McHale can be expensive . Priced a 2005 McHale f550 with 50000 bale count and they looking for 16000 for it thought that was mad expensive hope someone can help me choose.though thanks

That sounds a bit of a bonkers price for the 550

Got baling done by two different lads in to bale similar grass this second cut. Bales look identical . when i start using them i Will weigh one of each for the craic .The welger seems to rely more on compressing the bale from the very beginning due to the design of the belts The McHale was a fusion but that's just a 550 really and seems co compress more as the bale approaches full size. the lad with the Welger claims that for 2014 welger fitted heavier belts as the earlier ones were not lasting as well as expected.
The biggest difference was the price per bale. Welger was 7.50, McHale 6.50.And I supplied the wrap .

Parts for welger are shocking expensive but u can pick up 220 profi 80000 bales at about €8000 so you can work out value of 550 off that

MCHALE. Proven baler. great compact baler . worth paying extra.
Buy off a small farmer better condition.

Also parts are readily available .

The parts been readily available is the key ting for us - and ur buying Irish (I know Mchale has a place in Hungery but for the most part their an Irish company). That's how we wud justify paying the extrer money for McHale machinery

Your comparing belt to roller tho at that i take it? Belts wouldn't really be known to be ideal balers for irish silage conditions...

Mchale vs welger there wouldn't be a lot in it to be honest it's user preference really. The biggest thing is that welger have various spec levels with the profi being the daddy of them.

Welger uses single acting door Rams and a latch system were mchale hold the door using double acting Rams and hydraulic pressure.

First of all, apologies are due. Met the lad who baled for me today, and its not a Welger he had, its a Krone Comprima.
I must be getting early onset Alzheimer's.

I know, and the best I can do is to say that both seemed about the same weight while carrying them on the tractor. Also The Krone seem just as firm to the punch. Not very scientific. I will weigh one of each later and see what that tells me. The guy with the fusion

I love this Nekarsulm :-) Class one. The punch test for bale compactedness. Is it a downward thump used or is it a straightforward straight strike punch ;-)
