CPC card for rigid truck hire??

I plan on hiring a C category rigid for a few days to move the contents of a house from one part of Ireland to another.
I have a clean Irish driving licence (B,C1,C,D1) and worked as a rigid driver for some years, but not anymore.
I am in the process of completing the modules needed to get the CPC card, but I have been in no hurry with it as I'm not working on the road anymore.

So, can I hire and drive a C licence category rigid to move furniture etc (for a friend) without a CPC card, as I wont be working for hire or reward??

Thanks in advance for your replies,

    Scienceless.

Legally you can drive a truck no problem (as you have C licence) and you don't need your CPC for driving for private purposes.

I wonder though are there any places in Ireland where you can actually rent a truck (G.V.W over 3500kg) for private use?

It's mental money to hire a truck if you need insurance with it.

I have done so in the past, last time approx 2 years ago, I'm assuming they can still be hired...

You Will just need your licence and no need for any cpc.
Insurance might be a problem as most hire companies wont cover trucks as a once off.
    Too much rish i suppose.
Truck rental is expensive,it could be a better option to just hire one of the lads on donedeal or gumtree as they offer good rates and it would be less hastle for yourself.
