Tractor on iPad

I want to do this - get a load of old skool MP3's from various sources. Make some mix tapes.

So was thinking of getting a iPad and putting tractor on it.

What I'd love to be able to do is say I making the mix and after track 15, decide I want to change track 7 and the time track 12 comes in at.

Is iPad / Tractor the best set up for this?

I don't want to use a laptop as I'd like something that has a little bit of a feel of a deck.

in all seriousness though, you consider and ipad to feel like a deck?!!!

if you want something more hands on like that, you NEED a laptop and a midfi controller like a pioneer dj sb or soemthing. just got one to use with traktor, its good..

To be fair copeyhagen the iPad is what the Lemur was 5 years ago and is a damn sight more responsive in my option. I've never used one live but having had a LaunchPad and an iPad, i'd actually be half interested in using the iPad as you could have dials, pots and levers. It will never replicated a deck or tactile feel, but as a production / live unit it has it uses. Latency would be my only concern as you are dependant on a Wifi link.

To really do what you ask you need a DAW e.g. Ableton or Mixmeister and neither is available on the ipad.

Any DJ applications for ipad are designed for DJ'ing Live, some of which are really good, e.g. DJplayer (most devices supported), Djay (IMHO most stable and least fiddly) and Traktor, which is mediocre and you are pretty much locked into buying their soundcards / controllers etc ..

*EDIT: idj App "might" do what you want.

You used to be able to edit mixes within Traktor for PC years ago but they removed the native Mix recorder feature which allowed you to edit stuff live while a mix was playing (bloody shame too)
if you want something more hands on like that, you NEED a laptop and a midfi controller like a pioneer dj sb

You don't particularly need a laptop, an ipad will do once you have a supported controller e.g. wego, vestax spin etc ...
