Travelling alone Heathrow T1-T5

    Hi folks.

Its been many years since I last went through Heathrow on route to South Africa but I am doing this trip again. Last time I remembered struggling with suitcases because one could not take the suitcase trolleys out on to the platform (security thing - fear of trolleys landing on railway lines I presume). back then we had 2 suitcases and I was travelling with my husband.

This time its still 2 suitcases (one large one medium) plus my shoulder bag, but I am travelling alone. I also have a dodgy back now after an injury.

Is anyone aware of any assistance offered to someone like me when travelling from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 on the Heathrow express?

I presume there is no way that I can book my bags straight through from Cork (Aer Lingus) to Cape Town (via British Airways)??

Also how long should someone in my physical condition saddled with suitcases allow for travelling between the two terminals.

    Thanks for any advice.

I was in heathrow yesterday and I seen a luggage assistance kiosk offering a service between terminals 1 2 3.

The porter service that goes from terminal 1 2 3 to 4 and 5 costs a service charge as far as I'm aware.

Also if you tell aer lingus at bag drop your final destination they will usually check your bags on to the next airline for you.

Be aware that Aer Lingus now operate into T2 at LHR.

If booked on one ticket then your bags will be checked onto your BA flight, and you could simply transfer via the airside transfer centre rather than having to use the train.

This. I would very very surprised if the bags cannot be booked through.

You can book your bags through to Cape Town when flying from Cork. Just make sure to say it the agent at check in to be on the safe side. You will be flying on a BA ticket but on a Aer Lingus flight for the Cork LHR leg. It will take you about 90 mins to get from T2 to T5. I did it last year from T1 but it should be about the same time wise. Enjoy your trip.
