was coming down the motorway Friday night about 9, and somewhere around Nenagh just in front of me there was an absolutely blinding flash of light and again 5mins later another

were those flashes speed cameras ?

    do speed cameras flash ?

motorway was v busy, traffic in the fast lane doing 120-130

    it wasn't lightning btw

doing 130 in the fast lane, the reason I ask is I saw the same flash just after I passing a Go Safe van in the dark onetime, and I was well under the limit

Were there cars in your lane doing the same speed?

So you're one of those yahoo's that think it's a fast lane

I have seen flashed like that before and just assumed they where speed cameras but some people here dont believe speed cameras flash.

That's because GoSafe vans apparently use posh IR flash units but they may forget Garda vans, which tended to use bog standard visible light in their flash units.

Gosafe don't operate on the motorway....I think it must have been a fast lane detector van.

It's not called the fast lane FFS!!!! When will people learn?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,035 ✭✭✭goz83

People should really be in the slow lane :pac::pac:

The fast lane is a dangerous place with all that flashing going on.

    Joke

Ehhhhh is the speed limit not 120??

Could have quite possibly been a Garda van. They have been known to operate on Motorways in the Garda lay bys. And yes, some of them do flash. GoSafe vans do not flash and the only section of motorway they have is around the Naas.

The motorway doesn't start until south of Naas...any Gosafe vans would be north on the N7 I'd guess

Could it have just been some idiot taking using the flash on their camera pretending to be a speed camera?

Dualer, from what I understand their jurisdiction ends at the 120 signs, just hearsay tbh.

    Well,
Traffic does go faster when on that lane than traffic on the other lane.
So in theory, viewing it from the normal lane the traffic would be going fast. :P

There shouldn't be any traffic in the 'overtaking' lane.

    Exactly. Just block it off.

They do, thinking it's a fast lane, freeways have(maybe had) fast lanes, not motorways.

How can they be blocking it if there are going faster ?
are you saying you want to go faster again?? :pac:

Sat behind an eegit for about 10 miles on the M8 yesterdqay, had decided that 110 was as fast as anyone would want to go on the motorway and so took residence in the outer lane, saw 3 undertakes which while maybe justified is still risky IMO, sheer bullheadediness made me sit behind waiting.

Saw a couple of flashes on the M9 yesterday too when I was in the right hand driving lane....about 8pm and thought the same.

I Like to think of it as overtaking alot of cars at the same time. :D

Yup, as long as there's something to overtake, the facepalm really belongs to the toads who just sit in the outer lane when lane 1 is empty.

Did you flash him/her? Usually works.

The flashes probably came from your rear view mirror from people trying to get you to move out of the overtaking lane.
