    Hi all.

Myself and my other half are looking into honeymoon destinations at the moment (for July next year) and The Dominican Republic has piqued our interest.

    Has anyone been?

We are hoping to do Vegas, NYC then on to the final destination for 8 to 10 nights of R & R.

We will be doing an all inclusive resort but we also want the option to leave the resort to do activities so can anyone give me any advice in terms of what the country is like away from resorts.

    Thanks!

The DR is fantastic! I find it to be one of those places where you can get away from the resorts. Find a town you like and live it up! Talk to locals and find out what their into. Such good towns are Las Teranas, Bavaro, Cabarete...

Never been to Dominican republic but can I suggest a day trip to Haiti if possible, probably the most beautiful places I have ever been.. Completely unspoilt. Its a tad dangerous so go with a tour or something but amazing place. We went up through the mountains to an orphanage went around the slums etc. Life changing experience makes you value everrything you have as the have very little. May not be the best place to have a romantic holiday but some amazing and beautiful scenery over there
