Just checking all those start lists - they already have one for the men's RR on Sunday so perhaps they can't be relied on too much....

Yeah Jose Been, volunteered on her day off.
I like Jose a lot - very knowledgable and enthused by what she sees, makes listening more interesting.

    hows ryan getting on?

Well he wasn't in the top 40 at the 87km (?) mark, but Conor Dunne was 38th or similar

All three Irish lads are safely in the peleton after 6 out of 10 laps

I love how Phil refers to them as "youngsters" :P

Lol, one of the Dutch riders is called Lennard Hofstede (like your man in the big bang but said in a Dutch accent :P )

EDIT: All the Irish in the peloton 18 seconds behind a 11 rider breakaway. Aussies in control at the front of the group.

wouldnt have thought road cycling in eritrea was a popular past time

One lap to go....18km...Ryan Mullen and Connor Dunne are still in the peleton with a french rider 20secs dangling out the front

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,526 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

Where'd the Aussies go? Burnt themselves out too early?

Love that French kit, one of the few national kits that doesn't look completely naff :)

    9km to go maybe?

    Awful graphical coverage.

None of the Irish guys to be seen. Probably in the Peloton, but don't look like they have a chance of winning.

    EDIT: 5km to go.

I think we may need to test one of our riders for age doping...

The guy's had to wait nearly 44 years and eventually gets his name in the spotlight. Don't detract from his achievement by speculating there may be shenanigans at play...

Keep an eye on them. The main nations for cycling in Africa are South Africa, Eritrea and Morocco, in roughly that order. There's several Eritrean lads in MTN Qhubeka, and Natal Berhane of EuropeCar won the Tour of Turkey last year. They also seem to have a decent set of youngsters coming up through the ranks.

south africa i can understand having an interest, morroco i can see but eritrea was just a suprising. Though at the same time froome is kenyan and dan craven on europcar is namibian but there was probably some bloke in the low countries in 1987 saying the same thing about irish cyclists and they all laughed at le monde when he came to europe.

Part of it was a colony of Italy, I think that's where the influence came from. There's a Giro d'Eritrea. There's a bit of discussion on it in that book on the Rwandan cycling team.
