I've only ever really heard bad things whenever someone mentions the MF 500 series. Are they really that bad? Aren't they basically 100 series machines. I heard the steering was poor, was from brand new or just when they got worn? What about the 4wd ones. Thinking about a 590 as a possible machine to get.

I bought a 1982 two wheel drive ten years ago. The hydraulics were done before I bought it. Only trouble it has given was getting the clutch done a few years ago. It burns a bit of oil and is slow on the road but has been very reliable for me. Almost 10,000 hours on the original engine. They are a simple tractor and there's very little that can go wrong with them. I did have to spend a few quid on the steering but that was my own fault due to a lack of grease.

It will lift almost any bale and I've used it to pull an 1150 gallon tank (on fairly level ground).

It's 25 years since I drove one! They are better than their reputation though. Try get one with good tinwork and avoid multi power.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.
