Virgin unlimited leave

So, Virgin have a new scheme where employees can take unlimited leave as long as their work or projects aren't affected. I reckon the outcome will be most people taking even fewer days off as they feel the effects of peer pressure to make sure their work isnt 'affected'. Also, I reckon the few people who take a lot of leave will find that the organisation can survive comfortably without them, then they'll put themselves at risk of being made redundant (in the true sense of the word- there isnt actually enough work for them to do, the company recognises it and lets them go)

    Thoughts?

sounds to me that those most in need of a holiday will feel guilty about taking one

Sounds great in theory, but I'm not sure it really works out in practice. I'd prefer the 20 days I have to take than more days I could take, while hoping I find the right balance between not being needed and not leaving a pile of work to do.

Netflix (referenced by Branson) doesn't have a great rep as a place to work in reality, from what I've heard.

A friend of mine works in a place where you can buy or sell days off the company which seems a better idea.

Yeah, we've got that at work - we can buy up to 3 days extra and it's deducted evenly over the year's pay checks. Can't sell any back though.
