Ok so my friend went to the inspector and it didnt go very well. She had been claiming respite care allowance for like 2 years too long according to them. She curently has a rent allowance application being decided on, she is afraid that this could affect that and she could lose her dole money too. Im trying to tell her itl be grand but I really dont know. Whta you guys think?

How bad can this get for her.....

Normally any overpayment [and this seems to qualify] is redeemable by the department. If they want to put the boot in it's a cut off until the overpayment is recouped, if they play nice is a reduced payment going forward.

The important thing to remember is there is one appeal, but there is a time limit on that so be swift.

Don't think anyone on here can help, I'm sure there's an ongoing investigation by the department.
Your friend will have to wait for the outcome and what they decide

Details here of the various scenarios for the paying back of overpayments. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/claiming_a_social_welfare_payment/recovery_of_social_welfare_overpayments.html
