    Hi there,

My daughter is 12, she has an overbite of 13mm, she is bullied to the point where she doesn't want to go to school or even go out to play anymore. She has an appointment with the HSE dentist on the 5th of October. It can't come soon enough for us. I would like to know if anyone has experience of the waiting list for orthodontics in Cork city also because of her overbite would she be seen quicker? I am on disability and cannot afford to go private, but if the waiting list is severe I may have to take out a loan to get her treatment asap. Any information at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks

    OP
If your daughter has an overjet (not overbite) of 13mm, she will qualify for orthodontic treatment through the HSE . She would be in the most urgent category for treatment, but treatment cannot be carried out until Such time as all the baby teeth have fallen out. Unfortunately there is going to be a waiting time, both for assessment with the consultant to pass her for treatment, and until treatment can start. It differs in different areas, but if your child has a problem such as you state, she would be in a high category and the waiting time should be reduced. In the meantime, it is wise to have her dentally fit for treatment also. All fillings she may need must be carried out prior to treatment, and her oral hygiene must be impeccable.
    Hope this is of help.
