Exterior Wall Plastering

    Hello

I need an extensive amount of plastering done on a exterior wall. Stepped Cracks have also been caused as wall is possibly to long with no added strengthening

A guy priced the job. Good price. everything seems ok but 2 suggestions he had struck me as unusual. For plastering he will use tile adhesive (id imagine bathroom tile adhesive). I would have though he would use sand/cement mix

To add support so cracks wont appear over expansion he want to put in a metal mesh in places where the step cracks have appeared and plaster over that. I have never heard of this. Does this seem right. I thought a pillar with rods would have to be built for added strength.

My last question. If only sections where plastering is needed is plastered then everything is painted.Would they look the same or could there be a 2 tone effect. This guy thinks everything needs to be plastered so paint will look same all over

    Thanks
    Alan

How long is the wall up and how long since the cracks appeared allycavs?
Stepped cracks is alot of movement.
It sounds as though you need new pillars with foundations, tied into existing ,with possibly some underpinning also to stop the movement.

No plaster, mesh or tile adhesive(!!!) Will prevent the cracks reappearing again until the cause is fixed imo.

First call should be a structural eng.
