What is the best to feed ewes before they lamb and also after they lamb down?

Is it possible to feed straights like barley or oats?

    All ideas are appreciated.

Oats is a good safe feed, as you won't sicken em.
Barley is a very good feed, but you have to be carefully they don't get acidosis, as you can sicken with too much.

you would need licks or some minerals with just barley or oats I think. If only buying a small amount of feed, buying a ration / nut might be as easy.

Would need soya bean meal along with the oats also, for protein. I can't think of the correct ratio off the top of my head.

    It's around 5 to 1 if wanting 18% protein

Yeah that sounds about right, I'd include a mineral bucket too like UJ says.

Feeding pre-lambing ewes their daily ration in two or three servings may help cut down prolapses. As should feeding high dry matter forage.

I would be feeding the ewes on grass and hay, and just wanted to know what would be the cheapest feed to give them before and after lambing.. To keep them in good condition, twin lamb disease etc?
