Nice to read the reports of possible pairings - it all seems very 'out in the open'.

McIlroy and McDowell grouped together in practice today.

    mcilroy and kaymer, superstars
    Gmac and Victor, matchplay specialists.
    two very plausible pairings

Interesting to see from those pics that McIlroy is looking like going for that new Nike driver... Strange decision by JP in fairness.

For my money, this was the best Ryder cup shot ever played, and possibly the best golf shot ever played... right up there with "In your Life...."

OK I know a lot of you don't like this guy, I used to be in that boat, but that was way back when he was just unstoppable and used to win everything! He definitely grew on my in the years after his dominance, but you all have to admit, he really was some player in his hay-day (some may even say he just had his best year ever in 2014!). He will have to go down in the history books as one of the greatest ever golfers, he quite possibly holds the title of the best ever golfer to never win a (regular) major.

I don't have a great memory, I tend to forget a lot of things (sometimes very convenient  ) but I never forget this shot he played back in the 2004 Ryder cup against the Tiger, I even remember where exactly I was sitting when I was watching it lol.

I've never seen this interview before or heard his comments, but I like the way he admitted he didn't have the skill to play a flop shot ala Phil, so he had to play a shot sideways into the rough, soft enough not to go a mile but hard enough to make sure it didn't stay there. How hard was that to get right and on such a big stage. Watch him after... I don't even think he believed himself that he actually pulled it off...

it could so easily have been an "oooo Ernie"

I don't see the point when he is hitting the other one so well. Don't think there is much difference between them though so he should have no problem adjusting to it.

Can't see the point myself, especially not at the Ryder Cup when the intense pressure could heighten even the tiniest of doubts he may have with it.
We've never seen anybody drive it as well as him of late, I can't see too many positives that can come from it.., he can't get much straighter or longer.

The off season is just around the corner, plenty of lesser tournaments to try out a new driver on.

Hmm lesser tournaments to try stuff out in..
Is it any different really to lets say... Ian Poulter and Bubba Watson getting the crowd singing and shouting while they hit a shot?

He has had his practice with it... I say bring it on....

Westwood and bjorn out together in the fourballs. Send them out on a hiding to nothing!

Puts further thoughts into my Gallagher/Donaldson suggestions!

Can't see what point you're trying to make re Bubba and Poulter and how that compares to Rory changing a driver.

Poulter feeds off crowds at the Ryder Cup and that helps him elevate from an average golfer (compared to the other 23 players) into an excellent Ryder Cup player.
Rory can do no wrong with the driver of late, where's the big gain in changing it.

Can't see any positives that can come out of it. There may not be any negatives either but he's certainly leaving himself open to them.

As for practice, hardly ideal with him being wrecked after the FedEx and having some many other things going on this week. It's a strange move.

Par my thoughts would be that he's been testing it for ages. Rory knows people expect him to deliver so I don't think he's going to bring a gun to the battle that's not firing ;)

Doesnt need the driver anyways. He rips that 3 wood!

waiting myself! bloody Guardian..or its probably Clarkey. I bet he has shafted the Guardian after promising to do his top 25 RC golfers, got a higher offer to do his 15-5 from the Telegraph, took the money and then got Monty to do them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,782 ✭✭✭ionadnapokot

stevieob. have you been on to Clarkey?

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,871 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB
