Hi all.Friend of mine was driving my car.He gave me lift from local pub because I could not drive .On 1000% he was caught speeding around 100km/h in 80 km zone by Go Safe van.
Im the owner of the car so I will get letter shortly but how can I indicate him as a driver at the time? When u stopped by Garda,he takes your name. So is there something to put on the form and pay at the post office. He has no problem paying the fine and take 3 points.

    Thanks

When the fixed notice comes it will have a section at the bottom where you have to fill in the details and driver number of the person driving the car. Your mate fills in their details there and return it with the payment.

He should pay the fine but won't get the points. In theory he could probably get away with no paying the fine either but thats a super grey area.

He has no prob paying so no hassle there. Thanks for the answers because I did not know how to prove that somone else was the driver at the time but was not the owner of the car.

I'd say nothing grey about it. If he doesn't pay the fine, it's pure black area :D

However in case OP described, very likely it would be fairly straight forward to avoid paying the fine by anyone.

If you send in payment with the foreign persons details is that not ok.

He might not even get a notice. Don't fret about it until it comes...

All you do is fill in his details and post the form back to the Gardaí. Do not bring it to the post office or attempt to pay.

He will get his own notice and he can the choose to do what he likes with it. You will be off the hook.

I hope it will be that easy like you are saying.

    Thanks
