Hair Thinning Scissors Unrequested.

I've been trying to grow my hair long for a few months now and I went to get the ends trimmed yesterday just to keep it healthy.

The problem is that the hairdresser I went to didn't speak English. She seemed to understand I meant for just the ends to be taken off at the beginning and anything she suggested parts to be shortened I said No, just ends which she stuck to.
I stopped paying attention for a few minutes then realised she was using a different type of scissors. I asked and she said (brokenly) that it's thinning scissors. (I had never heard of them before). So I didn't try to argue further because she couldn't understand me, it seemed futile and alienating because everyone in the shop was foreign too.
I have naturally pin straight hair that looks super thin already and now I can feel it is lighter and looks very sparse and nearly see-trough which I can't stand.
My problem is I didn't ask for this whatsoever and she didn't prompt me to let know when was going to do this. In the hundreds of times I've gone for end trims no one had suggested it.

but more so my concerns is that now half the hair on my head is significantly shorter by inches than other strands.
Will I now I have to cut my hair much shorter in a few months to make sure ALL the ends are trimmed? :S

Edit: this is not a rant against the hairdresser. Going back to complain or getting my money back etc won't make me feel better or put the hair back on my head. I'm just elaborating and seeking advice as to what does this mean for my head.
Silly I realise as it's just hair but it's the only thing appearance wise I had going for me on good days. :'(
