    Hello all,

I'm currently changing an injector seal on a 2005 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI.

Slight problem I have is that to get at the inner bolt holding the injector down I must remove the plastic holder holding the diesel drain off pipe I think, however this bolt just spinning around and not beung screwed out.

Hope the above makes sense, Any advice is greatly appreciated

are you talking about that bolt thats holding down the tray with the wires on it ?

its nothing, mine broke too, not needed. its only to keep the wires tidy.

    Hi,

    Yes that's the one!

It's not broken, I just can't get the screw off as it is just spinning around.

I don't want to crack the plstic tray either as I will be selling the car n in a few weeks.

Any idea how to remove the screw or remove the tray without cracking it?

    Thanks

    nope.

same as what happened to mine. just have to pull the plastic up. just the screw will stay in place but make no difference.

glue it back when done if its bothering you that much.

That bolt screws into a brass insert that moulded into the plastic intake....usually the brass insert spins around and the screw cannot be removed.
It should prise up and pull the insert with the cable tray but dont worry about it you could try to glue it back into the plastic housing.

Tbh the injector will be harder to get out....
Just make sure you clean as much black gunk around the injector before you try to remove it...:)

As above, if you can't negotiate your way around that plastic bit then you are in for some real fun when it comes to the actual injector :pac:

I only did one of these today on a 150kmile motor. The best advice I got was to remove the injector clamp allen nuts and let the engine tick over @2k revs to get the head toastie hot. After a while the injector will lift under its own "steam" as the carbon softened.

I had to borrow a seal seat cutter as the seat was fairly rough/carbonated.

    Thanks for the advice!

I actually GOT IT OUT, by soaking it in Coca-Cola and using a flat head screw driver to break down the crystalized carbon. I couldn't believe it, I had used oven cleaner and WD40 yesterday and it wouldn't budge.

However all is not over yet :-(

    See the pic,

The injector was absolutely filthy with oil and bits of hard carbon.
Also, it looks like the copper washer has come out with the injector which has saved a serious amount of stress, but the copper washer is stuck solid to the injector.

What should I clean the injector with to hopefully loosen the copper washer.
Should I soak the stem down of the injector in diesel?

Also, how should I clean inside of the block where the injector was? I read that a socket with a cleaning wipe attached would work.

Again, thanks for the advice so far!

I personally wouldn't be sticking a cleaning wipe down there. If it's lost I could create problems.

As for the copper washer. I'd try turn it with a pump pliars. But good quality not cheap tools.
    Turning should break the bond.

That don't work or hard to grip. I'd get a small chisel and try tap it in the join.
