    Is there one?

The amount of people I saw driving today at >120kmph with poor visibility in heavy rain was frightening. Idiots.

I was momentarily on the M50! And the M2! And the M4! And the M6! I've had a loooooooooong day! And I know I'm making a huge sweeping generalisation and I apologise for any offence, but often the culprits are BMW/Audi/Merc drivers! Judging by today's experience anyway. Oh and a van.

Yeah some very dangerous drivers out there but such is life just try not to be one of them and where possible keep out of their way for your own safety.

Wouldn't bother with the rant thread, any threads on here relating to driving usually result in various 'experts' patronising other users and trying to outdo each other on their knowledge of the rules of the road. Needless to and fro'ing about fairly trivial matters etc.

    I guess you're right really.

Excess speed & lack of roundabout knowledge really annoys me though. I'm not saying I'm a perfect driver - far from it (and don't ask me to parallel park!) but I just cannot understand some peoples' terrible driving skills.

What's not to understand? The teaching process is poor, the test is poor, law enforcement is poor. A lovely mix.

    Ah...
Monty Python: The Argument Clinic: Director's Cut: http://youtu.be/RDjCqjzbvJY

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Okay I've given up on indicators and they are obviously consigned to history. But to rub salt in the wounds not just cutting in front of you but "flying" up on the outside lane (M1), cutting in front of you and taking the exit. Is it that difficult to go behind you then exit normally and not from the Kamikaze school of driving!

Higher powered, more expensive cars, mostly driven by men are obviously going to be more frequently over the limit - it's simply stating the obvious. Anecdotally, yeah I'd agree they can be quite aggressive on the roads too, tailgating etc. I'm a culprit myself at times but not nearly as much as previously.

Tailgating. Annoying in general but anyone who does it to someone driving the speed limit should be shot. Absolute c**tish behaviour.

You are in luck there is a left lane you can pull over into and carry on your merry way.

A lot of posters here live and breathe the M50 - possibly have a form of ptsd from it.

edit: the post I initially replied to mentioned the M50 and the motorways so maybe that's where the confusion arose - just to confirm I only get to experience the fine Irish road infrastructure my taxes help to build a handful of times a year.

    the one fingered salute....

I often encounter when I beep after I have politely just saved someone's life.

Brake lights - obviously never checked - often both sides gone and one in middle still alive.

Awareness - Does it not occur to drivers that they are not the only ones out there....

PHones, seat belts, undersized children in front seat, unrestrained in back, rubber neckers, parking space seekers where no parking ever existed and holding everyone else up, spacial awareness, illegal parking, hazard lights, driving in hard shoulder......speeding, lane weaving, no tax , no nct, no insurance, what am I forgetting?

    Illegal parking lights you mean!

Doddery aul' wans driving along at 60 km/h no matter where they are. Can't believe it hasn't been mentioned.
Overly "careful" acceleration, I join the motorway and I get up to speed swiftly and then settle to a cruise at 120 (ish :D). The car I absolutely flew past and left for dead is now overtaking me 10 minutesl ater. Yep it took them several km to get up to speed. Worse if stuck behind and can't overtake. 20.............25.................30.............30.....................30.................30 (obviously resting the engine, don't want to overstress the poor thing)....oooh! 31!...............40.............................45.......................50................................60..........................60..................................60 (oh no, another member of the 60k everywhere brigade).
Give me A4 man any day, usually just gets up to speed and off he goes, end of story, I don't get the hate for diesel A4's on this forum.
The guys that boil my blood are the old codgers, usually in beat up, ancient sh*teheaps of cars, usually cheap, ancient jap or Korean scrap.
And the old bastards are 10 times worse, they will drive slowly and hold everyone up, but if anyone beeps, flashes, overtakes, they throw a full sh*t fit and then actively block everyone. Easily spotted by the fact they have more hair coming out their ears than should be possible and 1970's healthcare glasses and the general dress sense of Father Jack.

to the people who I overtake on the mortor-way doing 100kph, who remain @ 100 kph when you get to an 80kph zone - I really don't care if you want to break the speed limit, so stop flashing your lights at me to move over to the other lane- I;m doing 80 kph overtaking other cars- all you'll get in return, considering we're coming into wintertime soon, is my big fat fog light switched on- I have a dim feature on my rear view mirror so your full on headlights don't bother me :)
