Was wondering roughly what does it cost to harvest forestry and bring it to road side, I have about 20 acres of Sitka 20 years old ready for thinning, thanks for any help

This will depend on your location and how good an access you have to your site, the going rates from my knowledge are from 20 -26 euro per cubic metre.

I thinned 32 acres last year. Got a contractor in to do it and agreed a price before. The contractor paid me a set price per metre cubed based on the quality of the wood. The Teagasc website gives some more information

hi. get advice from teagasc forest adviser on thinning and to make sure you abide by guidelines and ask as many forest owners as possible A few of us forest owners grouped together and got a reliable contractor that suits us. We thinned 7 forests this year and 2 a couple of years ago. We sold one to him at 16 euro/tonne standing which had no lorry access and others he cut for 23/25 euro/tonne + vat, we then sold palletwood 55 euro/tonne, stake,50 euro/t, firewood 40+/t.We now enjoy thinning and selling our timber, any other advice needed just ask.

When you sign up to a company like green belt do they the final say as to when the forest is harvested and to whomever at whatever price
