PCA expiry??

Just to make everyone aware of what has been happening with my recruitment process. I got 70 in my AC and have still not had the call, i called them today and was told it was because my PCA has expired and that i will have to do it again. I passed my PCA in April and they said that it expires after 6 months (as does the medical) and so it would expire before i start GV. After my PCA i had to wait 2 months for my medical date, without this delay i would still be within my PCA expiry. I have send them a strongly worded email stating this and also stating that nowhere in any recruitment literature does it state that the PCA expires and that i should not have to go through an additional recruitment stage. I do not have a date to do my PCA again and was told it will be sometime in the next few months, not looking good for getting into GV at all now that so many positions have already been filled. Has anybody else had a similar experience?

    Unbelievable!!

I can see their logic; you could have turned into an unfit lump of lard who has contracted untold diseases lol.

However, they shouldn't have called you for PCA and medical if they weren't ready so you have every right to be p!$$ed.

I imagine the PCA is hard enough the first time around nevermind the stress of doing it again.

    Hope you get sorted :)

Great!!!! Did mine the first week of April too Mikey. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow. Did I totally miss notice of an expiry date, or do they not make this known to everyone?

No Mop, i still have the letter they gave me when i passed, it literally says "you have passed", at no point have i seen mention of expiry dates during this campaign. You should defo get in touch because i got the impression that if i hadn't have called them then nothing would have been done about this, the girl at OHW wasn't even aware of the problem and had to call me back when she had looked into it. They also didn't have a clue when i would be redoing it.

That's awful but it would explain your situation, Mop!

Keep me/us up to date !

    Aaarrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I fecking hate this!!!!!!!!!! Ever get the feeling that the thing you want most in the world just isn't meant to be?? Friends are telling me is karma. I'm going to end up chief con at this bloody rate!!!!! Lmfao!!!!!! I'm off to gymnastics now then I'm picking up a multi bag of crisps and several huge bars of chocolate to scoff and give myself a migraine later tonight. I honestly couldn't pass it if the said it's in a couple of weeks. I hate running and let that part of my training slide. More fool me.

Hi all,new to this!..just found it while trying to prepare better for this years AC..found out my vetting still isn't complete and that's my hold up,if I'm lucky enough to get a place anytime soon I'll have to defer meaning my PAC and medical will be out of date!..this has been a very frustrating year-wish I found here sooner,I've drove my family mad at times lol

My vetting went off mid march, scored 71 AC did PCA first week April, medical mid May and been in limbo waiting for vetting to clear and missed calls every month since. Now this crap about PCA expiring. Can you say stressed???? I'm billing PSNI for hair dye!!!!

Think I gonna email them,at worst all they will say is still outstanding..worth a try..just don't want to have to redo PAC and medical..starting to think entering this new campaign isn't gonna help if it's a vetting issue..not that I can see why,I've had close family members vetted as high as this with no issues

Just found out my application is in the same boat... scored 74 at AC and passed PCA ages ago.

Mine's slightly different in that I failed my Medical for eyesight and had laser eye surgery which meant i had to wait 6 weeks to be passed medically fit.

Still, the PCA lapsing is so frustrating... Now i have to wait to retake the physical to be in with a chance. :(

I rang hr a couple of hours ago and said I'd heard about the expiry through the grapevine and she confirmed that it's true. My vetting has now finally passed but I'll need to redo my PCA and possibly medical.

Just a little update. They also said that the medical will expire after 6 months too. Back to ambushing the postman in the mornings then for a PCA date lol

I never got a reply to my email so I called them today and they said the pca letter is in the post already. I asked if they could let me skip the familiarisation session so I could get an earlier date and they said I was gonna be in the next group to do pca anyway. Hopefully it's the same for you guys.

Please god tell me you're kidding. It's in a couple of weeks and I'm dying of a chest infection (thanks kids) waiting on seeing dr :'( I'll never pass it again like this

Btw which dept told you that. I rang yesterday and HR said they couldn't tell me when it would be as it wasn't their dept to arrange it grrrr

The further along you get in this process the more hurdles there seems to be!

Are all police recruiting campaigns like this? i.e. Globally; USA, Australia. Europe?

I seem to recall the 80's documentary 'Police Academy' showed a different process.

It was occupational health and welfare.

Mikey you had more sense than me. Well I'm still dying. Wonder if they'd let me defer PCA? Don't think this will clear and have myself back to form for the approx date I was given :-/

Just got my new PCA date. Wee while to wait. Be a new year call by the looks of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 mikey87

I'm assuming we all have the same date to redo it in November then? I wonder if we pass will we make it into the calls going out in November, if not i think my Medical might expire as well and i'll have to do that again. Did anyone notice the change of venue for the PCA, it's not in GV anymore.

When I spoke to hr she said my vetting didn't clear to end august. I wasn't eligible for September calls as the cut off for those calls was mid august. If your dates the same as mine it will be a Jan call we'll be getting. Medical also expires after 6 months

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 mikey87

problem is if the call is in January then my Medical will probs expire before the start date as it was only passed in August.

    Ditto lol

    Same here!

So I got the call this morning. Apparently the head of hr reviewed my application and realised they had made a mistake and that the delays getting my medical date were not my fault. I guess all my emails finally paid off.
