Is Screenclick considered a good service?

I am new to Ireland, and have been using Screenclick for the past couple of months, as I hear it is the only real dvd renting service in the country....but...

    - It seems there is no chance to receive any recently released movies. I guess the demand is too much. I haven't been sent a single thing from 2014 so far, now matter how much I wait.

    - The actual catalog is strikingly small. Granted, I'm spoiled coming from the US and Netflix, but 9/10 of titles I search for aren't there.

    - And to top it off I'm on a 2 dvds plan because i watch at least 2 movies a week, and they don't deliver on Saturdays where I live in Dublin...

But online streaming services like Ireland's Netflix and Amazon don't carry recently released movies at all so those options don't work for me either.

Anyone know of any other alternatives? How do most movie watchers in Ireland actually rent and watch movies, new ones included?

I very rarely rent movies but anytime I do, I use Xtra Vision.

I never heard of Screenclick to be honest.

Wow, I'm amazed a service like this is still in operation. Seems incredibly archaic.

Well, it's like renting gramophone records out if it is.

well, I know how *most* people get movies, but I like having a physical DVD...and Netflix in the US did work like a charm. But from the sounds of it, there's no really great options in Ireland...

I believe you can rent physical copies from Netflix in the US. In fact that's how they started from what I remember.

One thing is for sure, people have a lot of beliefs. But we won't see such a model coming here.

I used Screenclick years ago and it was a great service but I don't know why you'd need it these days when you can stream anything you want.

What is the point of Screenclick if you have to wait for it to arrive at your door, when you can use sky box office / netflix / upc film download?

I have a screenclick account and get the dvds sent to my grandmother's house.

She lives in the sticks so no readily available internet and doesn't know how to use it or a computer anyway.

TBH I wish I could cancel the subscription as she only watches one dvd every month!

My parents who would be internet savy have appaling internet. We got to watch our first youtube video at home 4 months ago due to some rural broadband scheme but speeds are far too slow to watch live streaming.

Very Good point. Could see a use there.

Is there not some xtravison kiosks in spar these days?

There's an xtravision in the local town but I live 120 miles from her so it's easier to do Screenclick.

Can't see it having enough customers though to survive much longer.
