Are you right or left handed? If you're a leftie, do you find things difficult to do things like use scissors or such? I'm a leftie myself and writing with a fountain pen can be problematic.

My cock is that big and unwieldy I need a firm grip with both hands, even then it's a struggle.

Ambidextrous, kept breaking limbs as a child & as a result learned to write with both hands, although predominantly a rightie

I write with my right hand. But am naturally stronger on my left side. So I play golf (handicap 6.7) using left-handed clubs. Same when I attempt to play tennis.

Most of the recent US Presidents have been left-handed so is richest man in the world Bill Gates, one of the richest women in the world (Oprah Winfrey,) and Leonardo da Vinci, one of history’s greatest artists.

By contrast, Adolf Hitler was right-handed.

Boom!!! Lefties rule, Godwin in an early post!

Cut turf with my left foot.

I am a leftie, when I am writing anything, it ends up horribly smudged:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Mr.Pinchy

I'm a leftie but write " normally", as in I don't curve my wrist around when writing. Shaking hands is a bit of a kerfuffle as people usually put forward their dominant hand to shake, but other than that no...

leftie for the win yo !

I'm a leftie but I can use my right with no problems for scissors and such.

I played bass guitar with a small Liverpool combo that went places with my left hand. I tend to **** with my right hand. I have been known to talk out of my arse.

ambidextrous - when I was working teaching children they would go nuts when I'd write with both hands on the whiteboard. Problems using tools etc, not really - have preferences depending on what I'm using though - usually use a hammer with my left hand, screwdriver with my right, so on and so forth...

Years ago they tried to force left handed children to use their right hand - often with disastrous results. Were any lefties here forced to use their right hand for writing?

My aunt was (she went to school in the '40s). She still has crap handwriting as a result. Didn't stop her becoming a nurse and having a mind as sharp as a razor. She still has a pathological hatred for nuns though.
That happened here and in the UK as well.

My great-aunt was left handed - used to have her left hand tied behind her back at school to force her to write with her right hand.

Right handed but left eye dominant so I do a lot of things that need hand eye coordination left handed.

A guy I know had that happen to him in a school in the UK. He was only 2/3 years ahead of me too. Early 1980s.

left eye dominant here too, which can make things like archery or shooting interesting.... also places camera controls in awkward positions at times.

yep shooting and archery are interesting, I used to do a lot of small bore rifle and pistol shooting all right handed but archery just seems better left handed?

I am the exact opposite to you. Left handed writer and cutlery user but play golf right-handed (but don't feel the need to put down my handicap so people can applaud), am right-handed for camogie and racquet sports, but am a left-footed soccer player.

On a sidenote, to figure out your dominant eye, make a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers, hold it head height and at arms length, close one eye and look through...the eye you are looking through it is your dominant eye...

Ambidextrous. I just write with my right hand because the teacher tied my left hand behind my back to stop me using it! Sinister was the old word for left.

Why are we excluded from the poll?

yes, but everybody else, outside of the aforementioned people, in the world that has achieved anything of merit is right handed...

Why? It's equally off centre with each eye, just in a different direction. Hence what we have is called binocular vision. If both eyes aren't functioning at equal strength you can't see 3D

Your brain still picks one eye to give a frame of reference. Much like hand dominance, most people are right eye dominant, with a small percentage left eye dominant. The text described above is used to figure out which you are - alternatively you can just open both eyes and point at something at the other side of the room. With your finger still pointing, close your left eye. If your finger is still pointing at the object, you're right dominant. if it had moved, you're left dominant. Repeat the test by closing your right eye to verify.

No, still the same. The object moves to one side or the other depending on which eye is closed. Maybe my eyes are ambidextrous like my hands - or something.

Which eye do you hold a camera viewfinder up to?

Line a finger up with a distant object then close one eye then the other. Closing one or other of your eyes will loose the alignment thats not you dominant eye.

You have to start with both eyes open when you line things up.

I can write with both hands. Ambidextrous they call it. Used to get some funny looks from supervisors when I was doing exams!

This happened to me. I got an infection in my thumb on left hand and it was bandaged and the nuns tried to get me to write with the right which was a disaster and they told me I 'should be writing with the right hand anyway.'

I'm still a citog though they could not break me.

I just did that. Closed the right eye. I'm fooked if I ever take up shooting lol. Right handed with a dominant left eye...

Gee, , I know that. When shooting I do so with both eyes open. There is no dominant eye in my case.
I will look through a camera with either eye.
I kicked with both feet at rugby years ago. I played badminton with both hands. All equal. Oh and I have 2 full sets of kidneys(4 in total) to boot!

I write with my left but I am predominantly right handed in that I use all tools, implements and such like with my right hand. The only exception being a paintbrush- I can paint using both hands (painting of the decorating kind). I know of one lefty that cannot use "right handed" powertools with their right hand and seeing him use a portable circular saw with his left hand is scary!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭ErnieBert

Ambidextrous. I always write with my left, hammer with my left, punch with my left but play guitar with my right, wipe my ar$e with my right (with toilet paper, of course) and saw wood with my right.

My 2 kids are both lefties too.
