Strange round

Anybody have any info on this round?? I found it at an army firing range but don't know why the round has a steel tail on it that has rusted a bit. its a little smaller than .50 caliber and has orange tip. unfortunately i cant upload a pic.

OP, this is not militaria related. Try the military forum. Also, I am sure you have read it in the newspapers as notices are regularly put out that you shouldn't pick up any military ordnance from these sites. You put yourself and others in danger. Thread locked.
