Sandymount Strand path

What a pity the path used by walkers along Sandymount Strand isn't widened, with a separate bicycle lane, so that cyclists - who used to be able to use this - can use it legally.
The reason I say "separated" so determinedly is that this is the classic path used by people recovering from operations and by old people, so it's difficult for these poor codgers to totter slowly out of the way of cyclists.
There's actually room to widen it by one lane and put a barrier between walking and cycling lanes.

I'd personally prefer if the road was widened sufficiently to allow 2 bikes and 2 cars and bring the footpath on the coast side out onto the coastal path but realistically they'll be doing something similar to the Clontarf shared facility as part of the S2S "any day now"

I don't quite understand what you're saying, Skryne - you're saying bikes should stay on the road, away from the sea, but the path by the sea should be moved?

I was suggesting that the footpath should be removed at the roadside and pedestrians diverted to the sea from, allowing enough space for bikes to exist in as the road is very narrow.

I was also acknowledging that something akin to what you suggest is more likely to happen as the S2S route will probably follow the design model of the Clontarf shared facility

    pedestrians diverted to the sea
i see a minor problem with this plan.

ooops that should read pedestrians diverted to the sea front, though perhaps if off-road vehicles were diverted to the sea the road might be wide enough for other users :P

Cyclists enjoy cycling by the sea as well. The result of your plan would be that cyclists would continue to use the pedestrian path as they now do (and as used to be legal).
