Hi I have an Accord myself 09 same model as 07 one the cl7. Mine is a type s. I would say get one of them or an executive model if you can.
I think 6 ish for 07 sounds around the mark. They are a great car and the petrol engine is pretty much bullet proof and one of the most reliable cars you can buy.
I get nearly 700km from a tank so it's not too bad on petrol think about 32mpg or so. I have done 20k kilometers in mine since got it last October and not had any issues.
I'm thinking of changing mine but only as on the lookout for a Focus ST a car Iv always wanted to get!

Thanks Gavman84,I'm looking for type S model.Do they have timing belt or chain?

32mpg is that not on low side? Was reading that 38 - 40 mpg is achievable.

    They have a chain.

Forget about 40mpg. 30 is nearer the Mark.

They have a chain so no belt to worry about. Well I don't be on motorways or anything it's mainly B roads I do with some traffic too. It can do more on a run alright I guess all depends on your use.

Thank you George Dalton,I'm thinking go for Honda Accord Type S 2 ltr petrol or Mazda 6 2008 1.8 petrol. Would Mazda have better mpg ?

    Thanks

Nope, the Honda iVTEC engine is more frugal and powerful than the Mazda engine.

OP, the Civic saloon is worth having a look at too, it is not far off the same size as that model Accord. The 1.8 iVTEC engine also has 140bhp and is very good on fuel.

I'm not keen on the civic looks, and the boot size.Need to fit two buggies.Saying that,I like everything else about that civic. Will be booking appointment to see this one. Thanks a lot.

Boot in the Accord will not be much bigger. But if you need to fit two buggies then you really should be looking at hatchbacks which have more access to the boot than a traditional saloon.

Gavmans is a nice car, well looked after...would definitely be worth a PM to see if a deal could be done;)

True,I had mazas 6 1.8 petrol 2005 hatch, boot was huge, and I loved. At the same time I experienced so many problems like dead lemda sensor, engine consuming oil ,rust everywhere. At the end engine died all together. Now I just need a car quick. Something reliable and petrol. And Honda is on top for now.

Avensis hatchback is worth looking at, dull as ditch water but very reliable motor.

Extremely thirsty about town and feel very underpowered unless you rev them very hard. In saying that the engine is well proven, I'd try and find a Titanium X spec if possibly.

Thanks MuppetCheck. So 2 ltr petrol engine still feels weak for the car. Was advised to look for flexy fuel eangine which started from 2009,and very easy on petrol, about 6 ltr to 100 km.For me sound to goo to be true.

They aren't that good on petrol. 7l/100km is just about achievable on a long run taking it very easy. I'd personally avoid the flexifuel as it requires more frequent servicing and the mix it was sold to run on isn't available anymore as far as I know.

Thank you again MuppetCheck. Was offered mondeo 2009 flexifuel low miles for 6700.Looks to steep for me.What would be going price for 2008-2008 2 ltr petrol mondeo?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The flexifuel engines are not easy on fuel which was fine back in the day when you could fill them with ethanol at a fraction of the price of a litre of unleaded. However the Government took away that incentive and eventually you could not get ethanol here at all. These engines also need to be serviced every 10k miles. Unless it is going very cheap I wouldn't bother with them.

Seller told me that these flexifuel engines are great and consume very little petrol, and used that as a plus for the car.Its 2009 mondeo 2ltr flexifuel 70 000 miles he is asking 6700.I offered 6000 been told its way to low.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Well a seller would tell you that. :p

The flexifuel system can take both ethanol and unleaded petrol However as ethanol is no longer sold in the Republic you can only fill it with unleaded petrol. When ethanol was sold here it was about half the cost of a litre of unleaded so this hid the fact that these engines were thirsty. If they were great on fuel then they would still be selling them these days.

He told me to google and find out my self:D So this flexifuel would be more thirstier then normal mondeo engine? Will give him call back to let him know all about that engine, and offer him less.

    Thanks Bazz26 appreciate your help.
