The talentless pool of Irish radio hosts...

Seriously wtf, where is the talent?
Is National radio is the poorest its ever been?....I'm gone as far as listening to music on SpinFm and turning over or off when they talk, to a horrible c##t with a equally horrible Dublin accent thinking he's loved by all...prìck.
The others are as bad, Duffys scanger whine-line and tub's voice as bad as his 90yr old head and audience, Ray the do-gooder (it's easy when yer loaded)...
Time to pack a few cds in the motor

Newstalk have by far and away the best presenters. As for music stations and their incessant inane "banter"and competitions, forget it.

Say what ye will, but at least Gerry was a bit of craic.

The sad shower around today haven't an ounce of charisma between the barrel of 'em.

Do you get jokes at all?

There were 2 great d.j.s on Phantom, John Caddell and Richie McCormack but radio stations keep it conservative, giving knobs like an untested Nicky Byrne jobs instead.

Coopers had his day, enough exposè's on the government and bankers imo.
D'arcys too righteous, cycling, running, my kate, my Jenny, my Tom... its getting tiresome.

Fergal D'Arcy on iRadio...I'll say no more!

Wouldn't be Matt Cooper's biggest fan, if I'm honest. I liked when Anton Savage filled in for him a while back, I thought he did a good job. Darcy I could take or leave.

I'd chew off my left bollock than have to listen to Darcy, the pontificating bandwagon jumping emancipated weasel.

Ivan Yates is the best entertainment on radio.

Oh god, Mr SMUG Darcy bugs the sh1t out of me, listening to him too long, he is so condescending too, Does he have to replay what Katie did, said, ate, REALLY

Don't listen to as much as I used to, used to listen to 5 - 7 am slot for years on TodayFM, like the musc Fenton played, miss him, Iano is grand, rest on Today FM are not Roth lstening to, so I prefer CD's in the car.

I think radio hosts are just gob****es in general. Even over here they're just as bad. There's too many hipster presenters obsessed with bloody twitter and licking the arses of celebrities on UK radio.

I kind of miss the Irish ones in my weaker moments.

You are absolutely correct: giving an opinion is considered getting off the fence. Indeed, the stronger the opinion, the further off said fence one gets.

Who needs a pool of talent, when you have :
    Marty, Marty Whelan.
Montrose's mustachioed maestro of the classical (sic) music world.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,076 ✭✭✭✭Czarcasm

Ehh, Marty Whelan started off on pirate radio and now hosts one of the best shows on the airwaves on Lyric FM. Always found him far easier to listen to than motormouth Ryan or wooden as a speaker box Kenny!

Moncrieff? How the fcuk did he ever get on the airwaves, makes me want to stick needles in my ears!

Sean Moncrieff is the correct amount of smart, curious, quick and witty. I love him!

'Tis very poor on the larger stations indeed. Barely a moment passes without some presenters pressing the wrong buttons and cut tunes short or launching wrong fillers/ads. Other presenters can hardly complete a sentence without becoming unable to pronounce words or having to repeat lines. Another one has the aul 'Ahhh....' pause roughly about x36 per minute, not annoying at all.

Not saying I could do it, but imagine after a quick 3-day radio course? Well... probably could.

Reading out an on-screen script and remembering that the 3 big buttons initiate either a ad break, jingle/filler or go to the news when pressed, handy ;)

It's all gone downhill since they fired Val Joyce!

Sean Moncrieff on Newstalk and John Kelly on Lyric are my favourite Radio hosts. I am also enjoying Pat Kenny again….I think he's found a bounce in his step since his move to Newstalk.

I got over Ray D'Arcy a long time ago…too preachy, and Matt Cooper is slowly losing his appeal too.

Bernard, Keith and Jen are great on 2FM. Better that that Hector fella anyway.

Is it still impossible to get a broadcasting licence? years ago(2006 i think) I knew a guy who was busted for running a pirate radio station. He genuinely tried to get a legit licence but he said they only give out around 1 or 2 per year and usually it goes to a hospital or church radio group. I assume the big stations like it that way...
Maybe more competition would drive up quality. I'm in the states now and there's tonnes of stations with plenty of variety. Lots of crap, but you can just chose not to listen to them :)

On topic, i used to like Darcy and Cooper. Darcy had a fun show, i don't think he preaches to much. Fix it Friday could be fun.
I also liked Ray Foley but I heard once he left today FM he wasn't as good. I agree with a poster above about the Djs who focus on being hipsters and what's happening on Twitter more than the content of their shows

There is not one station worth listening to at the moment IMO. Too many paired up gob****es trying to be sooooo funny, bouncing banter from one to the other and each laughing harder at the other. It was becoming dangerous listening to it cause I was just going to kill someone in anger. CDs a much safer option.

Unless you're in a workplace that forces you to listen to the radio, stop fecking listening!
I haven't listened to the radio in over a year. Audio books, podcasts and just music is so much better.
