    Hi all,
I have started teaching chess in the local school and would like to organise some challenge games for the coming months.
Does anyone know of any junior/schools teams in the Cavan/Longford/Westmeath area or where I could find any information on same?

I would say your best bet would be to get in contact with either John Alfred or Darko Polimac. Both are heavily involved in junior chess in Ireland with Darko being the current Irish chess union junior officer.

I am sure both would be happy to help if possible. Would playing a match over the internet be possible?

both their contact details can be found from the link below.

Other possibilities include the LSCA and Alexander Baburin (ababurin@iol.ie). The former runs the official Leinster Schools competitions and the latter has an extensive coaching network in schools.

    Hi,
I think Pat McCarrick from Longford Chess club used to organise some junior chess in the area a few years ago, so it may be worthwhile touching base with him.
I would strongly recommend entering Alex Baburins monthly Grand Prixs. He has two sections and often gets well in excess of 100 kids at an individual tournament. The lower section is a great learning ground for any level, whilst the top section usually has some very strong players.
I think the top four overall in his competition last year ended up representing ireland as the top 4 U12 players in the Glorney Internationals, so the standard is usually very good. It's normally a relaxed environment if even a little crazy, but it's the best place for new players to learn and improve their game.
