Lost my expired driving license

So, my driving license expired last year and now that I'd like to renew it, its gone missing.

Can I just treat it as a normal lost license or is there another process because its also expired ?

Starting off point would be to contact your insurance company. If they took a copy, at least you would have the serial number of it. Not my field, but I think you have 2 years with an expired licence before a re-test is required. Not certain though

It's ten years, loads of time to replace it. However, it's always good to have a vaild in-date one.

Does that mean I go through the lost license process, as opposed to the expired process ?

Thats gas. Dont have an insurance policy for 2 years and you are treated like a novice and lose your NCB, 10 years without a current licence and go on ya good thing :D

You can also still be insured driving on an expired licence.

I am fully aware of that, but the possibility is there that you have not driven for 10 years yet still retain the same status as someone who drives every day. I was making an observation

    National Driving Licence Service.
    http://www.ndls.ie/en/Driving-Licence/lost-or-stolen-licence.html
Lost/stolen licences, learner permits and licence exchange

If you licence/learner permit is out of date and has been lost or stolen, you must

    1. complete a D401 for a Full Licence application and a D201 for a Learner Permit application at your local Garda station, forms are also available at Garda Stations, NDLS centres, Driving Test centres, Driving Theory Test centres.
    2. Then bring the completed Driving Licence Application form (D401) or Learner Permit (D201) to any NDLS centre with the following documents:

    • The appropriate fee
    • Photographic ID
    • Documentation to verify your PPSN
    • A completed NDLS Medical report form if required in your case

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/motoring_1/driver_licensing/renewing_a_full_driving_licence.html

"You are entitled to apply to renew your driving licence if:

You hold a driving licence that will expire within 3 months
You held a driving licence that expired less than 10 years ago
If your driving licence expired 10 years ago or more, you must complete a Driver Theory Test and then apply for a learner driver permit."
