New car and discount

Hi all. I'm going to buy a new seat Leon ST in Jan 2015.(it takes circa 10\12 weeks to factory order)
I'm on the fence between the 1.6tdi se with metallic paint & tech pack and the 2.0 tdi fr which has it all. Plus it drives way better. Anyone have any thoughts on this and also possible %discount from price quoted from dealer?. ( €26.6k for 1.6 & €30k for 2.0) If I could get the 2.0 for 28k I'd go for it I think
    Thanks.

There is no set figure when it comes to a discount on a car as there are various factors that come into play. Also January is a bad time to be trying to squeeze a dealer for a good discount as their order books will be healthy so less pressure on them.

Also are you looking at dealer finance? If so then this means the dealer will get commission on the finance deal so push for a better deal.

Go for the 2 litre if you can, the 1.6 is a little weak especially in an estate car.

    Thanks Bazz.
Yeah, its a seat PCP finance offer : deposit, payments, final payment/new model. I thought as much with the January buy,but if I buy now I'll only have a 3 months or so before I take a big hit depreciation wise. What is likely depreciation on a seat Leon over 3 years by the way?

I agree with you Muppetcheck. I've driven both and while the 1.6 is just adequate, the 2.0 has plenty of power when you need it.

I'm assuming it's the 150 and it will be more suitable if you cary loads.

If you're buying on PCP you're probably doing low enough miles? It's something to be aware of. I wouldn't buy a diesel for low miles but if you want to sell again after 3 years and have the warranty coverage you're better off with one. The petrol is slightly cheaper but you will get hammered on trade in and probably have a higher monthly payment.

    Thanks Muppetcheck.

Yeah, the diesel suits me all round. I won't be likely doing more miles than the pcp allows, but the terms of that mileage deal only applies if I want to hand it back. I'd intend to upgrade at end of plan.
    Thanks for the feedback.

If you go over the mileage you will be hit with additional charges though.

    Thanks again Muppetcheck,

I'll make sure to look further into those terms & conditions before decision time.

By the way;where would I get a blue book on car prices so I could get a feel for likely depreciation of the car from 2015-2018?

    Thanks

I don't know of any irish blue book.
Just look on Donedeal and subtract 5% from the average price.

Work out your yearly mileage and see how it would work out on the deal. Add up your commute, regular long spins and add 20% gives a relatively accurate prediction. Then see which one works out best. The Leons residuals won't be great but it's cheaper to buy it up front than similar rivals so account for the saving to begin with. Plus of you're going for finance the deals seem good.

    Also price a 184 for a comparison. I think it's a special order but it's a nicer car overall.
