We've had eircom in the past but are now thinking of combining all the bills by getting broadband through sky.

I can't find connection speeds on the sky site (could just be me ) and it says active eircom line. My eircom line is disconnected but it is there so does this mean I need to get eircom to reconnect? I really don't want to be paying a reconnection charge.

My main concern though is sky broadband as good/better or worse than eircom? There is often 2 pcs, a ps3 and phones connected to wifi as well as sky on demand cable plugged into router.

There would be no difference in the service provided by Sky or eircom. However, if your line is disconnected then Sky might not be interested as they shy away from getting involved in reconnections. So you may be stuck with eircom or possibly Vodafone if they take on the reconnection (via eircom).

it depends on where your located tbh, if your in a fiber area eircom or vodafone would piss all over a sky connection. fiber speeds of upto 100mb compared to skys max of 24mb, altho youll never get close to 24mb unless you live in the exchange

Sky is contended and will give you 1mb in the evenings they have terrible customer service, stay well clear

Thanks that's very helpful, never thought of Vodafone might check them out. Just not really a fan of eircom after previous issues.

Eircom own the lines vodafone and sky use. as in when you get your service off vodafone or sky, its a rebranded eircom package.

the main diff is sky has adsl2+ eircom and vodafone if fiber was launced in your area will be vdsl2+, but if it hasnt been all vodafone will be able give you is the same pack as sky or eircom would adsl2+

Thanks, pretty sure fiber is not available here because there was a fuss when they put it in town 2km away but not here.

Looks like sky is better avoided though.

Service from Sky is crap. I had been disconnected for many years and then decided to give Sky a call, they said they would come back to me and never did.

At least a call back to tell me they are not interested would have been helpful, so back with Eircom now.
