Hi, having had Sky and the UPC, we have now decided to get just the free to air satellite channels.

I got a 4ife Combo box in DID this morning (sv-401) and connected this to the cables coming from the Sky dish (DID told me this would work).

I can pick up 70-80 satellite feeds and have tuned in all of the feeds that show a decent signal.

However the only English channel I can find is BBC world news, no BBC one, two itv etc. I rang Saorview who tried to help. Theu mentioned tuning to Eutelsat 28A (I can see a Eutelsa 28 no t at the end) but again only BBC news. I have also Tried Astra 2A (Saorview said to try 2E but I cant see it)

Has anyone got one of these and had problems?
I will be bringing it back to DID tomorrow if I cant sort it out in the meantime and het the Triax one, but I suspect I will have the same issue.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

You won't get the Irish channels using the cable from the Sky dish. Saorview needs a feed from a UHF aerial, plugged into the relevant input on your combo receiver.

You mean you're going through individual transponders & tuning one at a time?

Which non-English channels do you have?

And please clarify if it's BBC World News you have or just BBC News. I would think the latter.

Thanks for the replies. It is BBC World News that I can get. The other channels are some Italian ones: alice, Leonardo, Marcopolo. Then loads of Middle Eastern ones: Saudi 1, Kuwait, Sudan HD, Al Iraqia TV.

The dish out front looks like it is in the same direction as the neighbours, maybe slightly different but only a little. Guess I have to get out on the ladder!?!

Looks very much like the Hotbird satellites @ 13 degrees east. Did you have Sky working from this dish, or was that at a previous address?

    Hi,
Yes, Sky worked from this dish, but I am now wondering how!!

If it is pointing slightly the wrong way and if I can find a ladder long enough to reach to the dish, is there a way to know what the right direction is? Or should I just compare to my neighbours dishes?
    Thanks

To get your dish pointing in the right direction you would be better of using a satellite meter .This site might helphttp://www.dishpointer.com

The dish has to be accurately pointed either with a signal meter or using the receiver's own meter with someone else adjusting the dish. If you haven't done it before it might be better to get a professional in.

Maybe it's a multi-LNB setup that can receive from several satellite positions. Example here: boards.ie/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=221129&d=1347979919

A DiSEqC switch is used to select the LNB feed required.

Now, to have worked with a Sky box, such a setup would have needed to have the 28 east satellites on switch port 1 (default), so finding 13 east would have taken some active input from whoever 1st set up the receiver.

Also, for all I know, the cable you have connected to the satellite input could even be from a 2nd dish, aligned on 13 east. I'm assuming you know how many dishes are on the property, & which cable(s) were connected to the Sky box.
