Night time in Roundstone Co. Galway, November 21 or 22

After this year's Charleville and my disappointment at how bright the sky was with a waxing moon at periapsis-I could barely pick out Polaris let alone the Milky Way!-I floated the idea of a nighttime meeting. Tentatively we leave Galway City and go out to far to the Atlantic coast to shoot; we all come together and shoot the stars and Milky Way for a few hours while we freeze our arses off. The date is important:
    • The October new moon is on October 23, but it falls midweek (Wednesday).
    • The December new moon is on December 22 and on a Monday. Even with the weekend beforehand available, it is still too close to Christmas.
    • The November new moon is on Saturday November 22. This isn't near a holiday and it is on a weekend.

I give a range of dates because any gathering will be subject to good, clear weather. Rain? Forget about it.

    Where:
Co. Galway. I had somewhere like Roundstone in mind. There is light pollution out of Galway at least as far as Spiddal, so the farther the better.

    When:
Friday November 21 or Saturday November 22 from about 7pm onward. I expect the skies to be fully dark by 6pm.

    What to bring:
Camera kit, plastic bag for camera, many layers of warm and dry clothes, sturdy footwear, flashlight and blanket.

    Contact:
Tweet @bhalash or email mark@bhalash.com if you have anything to add.

Gorteen bay would be a fairly good spot, about 2 miles beyond Roundstone on the way to Ballyconneely. There's common land out there which is very dark, and if you get moon light the beach there would make for some really stunning long exposure photography.

Given the right weather conditions Gorteen Bay sounds like a good location for a nice Sunset (The Photographer's Ephemeris) in the late evening and the Errisbeg Lodge B&B a nice place to stay maybe after a trip into Roundstone for some late refreshments ;)

This idea ticks lots of "Must Do" boxes on my "Must Do" list. I'll have so many thermal layers on I'll look like Bibendum.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

For anyone in the west.. just a heads-up that there's a proposed meet-up for the eclipse.
