Guys, has anyone being using Fiocchi amo on deer.?
If so how did you find them compared to other rounds?
Also what ones did you use ie ballistic tip or soft point.?
I had looked at them some time back but never go round to giving them a run.
They seem well priced v say federal, Hornady etc

If their rifle ammo is only half as good as the shotgun cartridges and 9mm pistol ammo it must still be the dog's dangly bits.

Nope, my pecking order in terms of bullets and ammo is: (1) Sierra, (2) Nosler, (3) Berger, and (4) Hornady.

I have used it to put holes in paper and it does the job well. I wouldn't have any issues using them inside of 400ya. However, for longer work, which would be outside of hunting, would again go back to Sierra or Nosler.

I have used both bt's and sp's, albeit in other brands, and both drop deer on the spot. Nowadays, I use the bt's.

Personally, I use the Remington green box ammo to stay handy during the off season and start to use game day ammo the month before I hunt. I would probably do the same if you want to shoot cheaper stuff/Fiocchi.

Do your homework on the Federal. Some of those rounds have Sierra, Nosler, or Berger bullets. It's the closest you may get to custom ammo in Eire.

    Thanks Fisma.
The Fiocchi BT use Hornady SST bullets, and the soft point are Siera game king, or so I am told.
That is what has me wondering am I getting too hung upon the fact they are viewed as a cheaper brand.

I am finding the Hornady and Federal harder and harder to get, the Norma near to impossible. And when you do, the cost seems to have rocketed.
I got together with some friends, and rang a few local dealers last week and the best they could do on 2 cases (20 boxes) of federal 100g BT in 243 was €42 a box. The Fiocchi could be got for just over €31 a box at those quantities.

If so, I'm going to stock up on Fiocchi.

In my opinion, the best bullet out there for hunting is the Game King and for targets the Match King.

The other obvious consideration is powder. Brass and primers not so much.

I have heard that many American manufacturers tend to use the lower reloading recipes in order to help lawyer-proof their ammo. Not sure if this is true or anecdotal.

Will have to do some homework to see who is using what powder. All to often they don't want to let this information out though.

However, the game-kings are the bullet of choice in the States for hunter-reloaders.

What kind of shooting are you doing: precision, hunting, paperwork, vermin?...

I have used plenty of Fiocchi ammo in rimfire, centerfire, shotshell, and never had a problem. I bet they perform better than I do!

Now that you mentioned the Game Kings, I am going to order a box for my 30-06 and see how it groups.

Its mostly hunting I do, and obviously some plinking to zero and get the eye in.
Lakelands in Mullingar stocks them if that's of any help.

I suppose the question I am asking, is there any real down side to a cheaper priced round if they use a good quality bullet? You would have to assume any modern day manufacturer would be using decent powder and a consistent load. Am I perhaps falling into a marketing pitfall, in that thinking if a round is cheaper its inferior to its more costly counterparts ???

For hunting, putting holes in paper, and general merriment, I doubt it. Get a box, let them fly, and see how she groups.

I would get a few boxes and see if the rifle likes a particular mass bullet.

I have had great success with Hornady SST's in 180gr taking deer at/around 400ya. Great accuracy and precision.

I think the 400ya mark is the perfect distance for the rounds I am using. At that distance deer fall on the spot.

If you were in to the 1000ya game then you'll find out quickly how important every component of a round is and why lads in other countries reload.

I went to a match recently with American Eagle, Hornady, and PMC ammo. During sight-in, I was trying to hit a mini-clay at 1000ya and just could not.

I was able to get on paper and get a respectable group, but could not fine tune the scope due to the variance of the ammo.

Again, I shot more deer with Rem's green box than anything else. You are not going to win competitions with it, but you will surely bring home the supper!

As long as there grouping well at 100 and 200 yards and you know where to hit they will be fine then 99% of your shots willnt be past 200 yards hunting if you want to be pushing them distances plink with them first and if they don't group buy something better for long range then if they don't work

I looked them up, the 308 at least comes in Hornady sst and Siera Game King hollow point. Not sure if there are any other variations.
Would the siera Game King Hollow point be suitable for deer?
