This is a whole lot of nothing but I asked myself why?

So back in april I booked a flight through a well know travel site, for travel in december, yes im well ahead of myself. Anyway this week a staff member emailed me with my eticket saying he noticed they hadnt sent me my ticket, I didnt even notice to be honest because I had done it so far in advice. So that's fine I now have my ticket. He has emailed me again asking for a scanned copy of my passport for my booking. Now the booking is confirmed, fully paid and I have my ticket...its probably a silly question but why would they need a scanned copy of my passport now?

im just curious as ive booked many many flights over the years and this is a first

It depends where you're going, but for some places (eg. Spain, USA) they would need your passport number etc for advanced passenger information before the flight. Its probably easier to just get a copy of the passport, because so many people would submit the name not exactly as it is on the passport, or give them the wrong number etc.

Ive travelled the same route last year and never had to give a copy of my passport after everything has been confirmed and issued. I would've entered those details at the time of booking. It is probably just a thing the travel company do as its the first time ive booked something through them...I just thought it was unnecessary as I could print of my eticket and give that and my passport at checkin?

Ask them why they need it at this stage.
