if I wanted to do this with an arc welder what type of weld is it? want to look up a few videos on youtube to find out a few tips and tricks

    It's not arc. I think it's Tig.

Tig most likely aluminium or some sort of alloy

Thats definitly tig and is aluminium, and good luck trying to do it! It would take years of experience to get it like that!

I doubt it could be done and look that well with arc, and if it was it wouldn't have any strength to it to behonest.

You can get tig sets for certain inverter welders, the one here can do it but i haven't got the tig kit yet, i will some day tho :D

It's TIG welded aluminium - the guy in question is a fabricator for a 4WD company.

A problem we are having at work now, to be honest. Trying to get a good strong weld on some stainless steel parts.
An experienced welder said it to me once and I have to agree - 'Big difference between a good looking weld and a strong, deep penetration weld'. Arc welding will give you the penetration.

Brothers job is stainless fabrication and they never, ever use arc. Always tig on stainless. Fairly regular their work it pressure tested and xrayed for certification on jobs.

The guy was actually talking about arc welding of mild steel at the time. I don't know much about welding stainless. I'll have to learn more in the coming weeks.
