Location Services question

I got myself a HTC One M8 last night. when i setup the new phone i transferred over the settings from my old android phone using my google account. one of the things it asked was whether i wanted to turn on location services. It specifically said i had it turned off on my old phone but did i want to turn it on on the new phone. so i turned it on. When i opened location services it knew where home was and it also knew where work was. the only problem is that i had never taken that phone to work and i had location services disabled on my old phone.

so how did it know where i worked? was it storing location data on my old phone even though i told it not to?

Are you sure you had it turned off on the old phone? Other explanation is it could have recognised work and home straight away by your work and home wi-fi connections if you have one at both.

i'm positive i had it turned off. It told me this during the setup process and asked me did i want to turn it on. I havent connected it to my work wifi yet so it isnt that.
