TV and soundbar sound issue

    Hi All,

I have connected an LG NB3740 soundbar to my Philips TV (40PFL865H) using a HDMI cable from ARC port on TV to ARC port on soundbar. I just end up with silence from both the TV and the soundbar or else just with sound from the tv speakers. Its very annoying. In order to get it to work I have to access the settings menu each time on the TV and scroll to the sound settings and select easilink auto (I think!). I presumed that ARC would just work. The soundbar seems to just want to look for optical input and the only way around is to fiddle with the tv settings....sometimes sucessfully...sometimes not. Any ideas? I read somewhere that I may need a new HDMi cable with ethernet to solve the problem. Does that make sense?

Can you verify that Philips model number? There's normally four digits between the 'PFL' and the suffix 'H'.

Does the HDMI port on the TV say 'ARC'?

Are you feeding the video source (Sky/UPC) first into the soundbar ('HDMI in') and then from the soundbar ('HDMI out') to the TV?

Have you checked for an ARC option on the TV setup menus?

    Thanks for the reply coylemj.

    The tv is 40PFL8605H.

The HDMI port on the TV does say ARC

All video sources are connected directly to the tv and then out from ARC hdmi to the soundbar.

I have checked all the menus and ensured that ARC is switched on.

I have since tried sending the audio directly to the soundbar from the Tv.

The tv doesnt have an optical connection but it has an Digital audio out port.
The soundbar has an optical port. So i purchased a digital audio to Toslink converter. I set the soundbar setting to auto connect.

I thought that might have sorted the issue....but no. I still have to go into the TV's sound setting and toggle on/off easylink, or tv speakers to get the soundbar to kick in, especially after I turn on the tv.

Any ideas guys? does it sound like the TV or the soundbar is the problem?

Does the soundbar have a normal RCA connection ? Try audio out TV to RCA soundbar, foolproof method of connecting everything. :)
