Am i on the right forum????

Hubbie received a letter from the above stating that he owed monies to them (nothing stating as to when or why!) we contacted local representatives and it seems that he was overpaid four times and he repaid the majority of their mistake with the last in sept 2007.....is he still liable or can he claim statue of limitations on the debt????? tia

I take it there was an overpayment and while hubby repaid alot of the amount, there is still an outstanding figure, am I right? if there is still a figure outstanding, then it does need to be settled. there is no statute of limitations when you owe Govt money - different matter completely when they owe you month you can only claim back 4 years.

best to write to Dept and ask for clarification of what amounts they are stating, how they came to the figures, etc. they will normally accept a repayment deal over a few months (or years) depending on the sum involved.

revenue tried to chase me for 700e a few yeas ago which related to an underpayment 6 years previously. they were very determined to get the money they thought they were due. Luckily I had copies of all my correspondence and could prove my repayment
