Problem with Battery operated sprayer?

Have a Hudson 'never pump' battery operated knapsack sprayer. It was working perfectly till the other day,was last used around a fortnight ago.Went to use it but battery seemed low so plugged it into electric socket to charge.Instruction say to charge for minimum of 6 hours,no maximum time stated.
Left it on overnight so it would have been charging for around 12 hrs.when I plugged it out in am indicator light was green to say it was charged but there wasn't a gig out of it when you depressed hand lever to discharge water.
In instructions it does not say whether to have power switch on or off during charging,I had it on.No smell off it or anything, opened the bottom to check connections to motor etc this eve and everything seems fine.Am not the most technically gifted so has anyone any theory on what may be wrong?
It's only about two years old,has had low level of use and anytime I charged it before I left power switch on while charging as I did this time, appreciate any views,thanks..

Any decent electrician would sort it out for you. Can you get your hands on a multimeter?

was the battery left in a totally flat/discharged stae for longer than 2 months?

This happened to a good rechargeable torch on me where it was lying in the jeep all summer and not charged, also have a battery bosch hedge trimmer and battery piss poor as it was left up for a long period
