Work in UK, Live in Ireland

I work offshore in the UK Oil & Gas sector, where I do 2 weeks on an oil rig, and then 2 weeks at home in Ireland on a rotation.

I average about 160 days working in the UK and the rest are spent in Ireland.

For the past 2 years I have been paying UK tax with a NIN number.

I have been told that I have to declare to the irish gov that I am working abroad, but have not done so. Will this make me subject to any additional taxes?

Would anyone be able to suggest the best way in which I can work my tax?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Is offshore in international waters? Or is it closer to coast?

Sounds like you are still tax resident in Ireland, and thus should not have been paying uk tax at all. Could be big problems, talk to accountant/tax specialist to sort it out.

If you are on a UK contract of employment at their gas rig the UK has primary taxing rights.

You may have an irish liability with a credit for the uk tax paid.

You would have to do an effective rate calculation for the credit.

    Its not overly complicated
