On holiday in Waterford in a couple of weeks time and looking for some suggestions on where to play.

Have booked both Faithlegg House and Tramore - probably looking for another 1 or 2.

The both of those are really nice courses.

I'd maybe look at trying to play Dungarvan GC aswell, thats my personal favorite out of the 3 courses in Dungarvan.

Aside, there's a dogleg hole in Faithlegg with a tree slap bang in the middle of the fairway, "i may aswell take dead aim for it, i'm slicing and hooking the ball all day"..... it was the straightest drive i've ever hit :D

Waterford Castle, Waterford & Dungarvan in that order

Carrick-on-Suir and Clonmel courses are both in Co. Waterford too.

West Waterford is a fantastic track too in Dungarvan and very reasonable.
They have an open comp on Wednesdays.

Was a member there a few years ago and was back to play it recently and it's in top condition and matured a lot.
    Great challenge.

I think the best courses in Waterford are probably Tramore and West Waterford. Apart from that there are no bad courses in Waterford.
Castle has a lovely setting on the Island and is a bit of a must for that alone. Faithlegg is also lovely set just a cross the river from the Castle and a very good course, too.
Waterford is good too, but a bit tight which is not a good combination with it being very busy quite often. A lot of run offs around the greens. But again not a bad course at all.
Dungarvan is very well kept and lovely for sure, but not as good a course compared to West Waterford. Gold Coast is spectacularly set at the waterfront with lovely holes around the lighthouse but has a lot of some blandish holes too.
Dunmore is probably the weakest in terms of upkeep also with a lot of bland 'up & down' holes on the front, but on the upside a few amazing views on the back.

Edit: These are my personal views and not intended to offend anyone. Just in case...

I'd deffo play Waterford Castle. Played middle of august and in great nick. Excellent challenge. I'd throw in the Gold Coast aswell if you plan on heading up Dungarvan direction. Unrivaled views and some spectacular holes to make up for the odd bland one. Always well kept too.

Castle - Faithleg - Tramore - Gold Coast would be my order of preference in Waterford

Never played Clonmel, but not mad on Carrick. Whats Clonmel like?

From what i remember Clonmel is a bit hilly and has a good few "up and down" holes. There is a fantastic par 3, is it the 11th or 12th, where you play down to the green from pretty high up.

My buddy got a distance membership there for handy money, and i played it with him when he was getting his GUI handicap.

Waterford Castle, Faithleg, Tramore, Dungarvan, Waterford, Gold Coast, West Waterford.

Thats my preference. the Castle is probably the best setting but maybe a little short. Faithleg is a close second. Waterford is low on the list purely because (as already posted) of the difficulty in getting out there at the week ends. Others seem to like West Waterford but I dont, always seems to be a howling gale there. I played it when it was a new course and just never seemed to get to terms with it. New Ross is also an option - just 15 mins down the road, always in good nick and Carrick on Suir as already mentioned is a challenging track.

We're blessed with good courses in the SE.

I wouldn't fancy playing the Gold Coast in the wind, played it over the summer on a very calm day and it was lovely, but i'd imagine its very exposed to the wind. Spectacular views indeed.

I second that, with the motorway you even have the likes of Mt Juliet and Gowran (which is one of my favourites) in striking distance.

Only thing is we don't have a links anywhere nearby. Can't have everything I suppose.

Played it in July and didn't like it at all. If you have one leg shorter than the other it'll suit but some great drives get punished due to the sloping fairways. The 14th par 3 is lovely but the day we played there was a gale blowing down the valley into our faces which meant a 3 wood fell short ... it was playing around 170 yds that day!

I've played it in strong winds. Its a good tough challenge alright but enjoyable. Only gripe would be the par 4 10th which is almost unreachable in 2 at the best of times, when a strong wind against you its impossible.

Mt Juliet in Co Kilkenny which is about half an hour's drive from Waterford.

As you are playing Tramore and Faithlegg would definitely recommend Waterford Castle also Waterford is a decent track but not a personal favourite tbh,the three courses in Dungarvan are all decent but would choose West Waterford personally played it a few weeks back for first time in years and was very impressed,as has been said Mount Juliet is thirty minutes up the road and if finances are an issue for €13 you can play Williamstown not everyones cup of tea but a good test of golf and great value for money

I'm a member in Tramore, but would say it's the best course in the county anyway.

I always love playing the Castle. It's a good course to score on so you come off feeling good about yourself! And it's a nice getting the ferry over to play it, always feels a bit different.

The 3 Dungarvan courses are all nice, you could make a case for any of the three being the one to pick. Other than that, I'd say Waterford is well worth a look as well.

Played Faithlegg last weekend. A grand spot (some lovely views) but the greens are in poor condition.

Had booked in for the ISC myself on Sunday had to cancel. Usually a place would have them bang on for the Cups.

Of the courses I've played in Waterford, Gold Coast would be my pick marginally over WC. Stunning views and yet to master 17 or 18. Tough finish imo.
