Women’s racing in Ireland is growing – and you can help make it even bigger!

2014 has been a phenomenal year for women’s cycling. This year saw the launch of La Course, a one day race on the final day of the Tour de France. The FriendsLife Women’s Tour stage race brought the best international and domestic racers to the roads of Britain. Here at home, we had an increased number National League races, as well as record participation in Rás na mBan stage race. Across the country, local TT, club and racing leagues have sprung up to introduce even more women to road racing.

These international, national and local events don’t just happen – they need the support of the cycling community to make them a reality! The Women’s Commission invites you to the Women’s Cycling Open Forum on Saturday, September 27th, the goal of which is to get input and feedback on how to grow and develop women’s racing in 2015 and beyond.

The meeting will include a review of the year’s activities, feedback on what went well and what could be improved, and outline plans for women’s racing in Ireland next year. We invite women and men from across the country who are interested in women’s racing to attend and bring their ideas and input, regardless of how long you’ve been involved in racing. We especially welcome parents and junior riders to attend and help shape the future of women’s racing in Ireland.

The details of the Open Forum are:

Venue: Maldron Hotel, Tallaght, Dublin (from the N7, take the Citywest exit to avoid Newlands Cross) http://www.maldronhoteltallaght.com

    Date: Saturday, September 27th 2014

    Time: 11am-1pm

    Refreshments will be served.

Please spread the word to your clubs and friends who might be interested in attending.

    Thanks, and see you there!

The Women’s Commission is a voluntary group dedicated to developing women’s road racing in Ireland. It is responsible for running introductory programs such as winter training camps, track development days and the Corkagh Park Ladies Racing series, with support from local clubs. It also manages the National League calendar and organises Rás na mBan international stage race. Bump

There's been a lot of discussion about women's cycling here lately - the World's selection, the success of Rás na mBan, a certain attire, to name but a few. We want to continue the conversation, and plan for women's racing in Ireland in 2015 and beyond.

The Women's Commission AGM & Open Forum is on Sat 27th (details in previous post), and we want to have your feedback and input into developing women's racing here.

Dads, Mums - if your daughter is in anyway interested in racing now or in the future, we especially welcome you to attend. And if you need inspiration, just watch this!

I was a bit slow with getting the report for this online - now available on the site http://womenscycling.ie/report-womens-commission-agm-open-forum/
    It's a cracking read, I promise :D

Fair play QG! The minutes give a great insight into the amount of work the women's road commission puts in to developing the sport. Looking forward to the crits again next year (but perhaps with a fancier bike next time...!)
