Gateway Eligibility

I have been selected for the Gateway scheme and wish to challenge my eligibility to participate.

In June this year I graduated from college with an honours degree and have been claiming Jobseeker's allowance since then.
While studying I received BTEA for five years as mature student

Since leaving college my job prospects have been significantly increased. I am currently looking for work in the design field with a view to becoming self employed, I feel that participation in the Gateway scheme would have no benefit to me and would hinder any chances of establishing myself as a designer.

The criteria for the scheme states that participants must have been receiving JA for two years. Does this include BTEA and I am eligible for this scheme?

In addition to this, is there any other way I can exclude myself from this scheme without losing benefit.
I currently claim for myself, my partner and my 12 year old daughter.

I would think that you are eligible. You have been signing on for over 5 years and changed to sub category of BTEA for the duration of college years and then during each summer sub category BTEA would have been removed and it has also been removed now as you are no longer in receipt of BTEA. You can say no to Gateway and explain like you have here or you could apply for Back to work enterprise allowance https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Enterprise-Allowance-Self-Employed.aspx if you have a business plan and if granted you would maintain your current payment for 12 months and then AFAIK its reduced to 75% for second year of BTWEA. If you were on this scheme then you would be excluded from Gateway.
