Car is due an NCT in a few days. The car has a "check handbrake' message but this has been done, cleared and all is well, the warning just pops up randomly.

Is this sort of thing an issue or likely to cause a problem on the test, if it is just rogue warning light and not an actual problem?

It's only a visual no fee no booking retest if it does come on during test, so take a chance

What car is it? I remember on a few of my cars I had to bend the pin on the connector in the handbrake to fix the issue.

    From the NCT Manual:

    ITEM
Malfunction Indicators for Airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS/Electronic Braking System (EBS) and Parking Brake.
    REASONS FOR FAILURE
1 Not working or indicates a defect in the relevant system

So, according to this the hand brake warning light would be a fail.

Thanks Enjobe. I went to the centre and yes it is a fail with a free visual retest. Doesn't matter if the brakes are fine, the warning bulb will fail the car. Feck.

Engine management light is'nt a fail, as they changed it a few years ago.

The girlfriends yaris has it on 4 years now and passes every time.

My car ecu went and light was on had to rep[lace and then these rules changed I was so annoyed as it made no difference to the car and it was running 110%.

Defo fail as it's a dangerous fault as it could be sensors/ also sensor in seat.
