Car & Tyre Advice Needed

Not sure if this is the correct category to be posting under but I bought a 5 year old jeep 3 weeks ago from a simi car dealer which once the shine and polish settled down, I noticed that on the front passenger tyre that there was a crack and scuff marks on the tyre; which has formed a small bulge. Before bringing the jeep back to the car dealer, I took the jeep to a tyre place for their opinion which they were able to tell me that the tyre was 4 years old but were not able to determine by looking at the tyre on the jeep if the crack and scuff marks were done before I bought the jeep or after; while in their opinion the crack and marks were not bad, they would be a fail on the NCT. The tyre place also pointed out that I would have a job on my hands with the garage; as the garage would have done a checklist before releasing the jeep to me, which this would/should have been highlighted and changed accordingly. However the tyre place did think that it was strange as there was no mark to the alloy. However I had to go back to the garage anyway yesterday, as a cup holder in the centre console was broken when taking the jeep for the test drive, which upon purchase of the jeep I was told that the cup holder was to be fixed before collection and payment of this jeep, which when I did collect the jeep, the cup holder wasn’t fixed at all. So when I brought back the jeep to the garage for the cup holder yesterday, I mentioned about the tyre which the garage said that they had a checklist in place and that in their opinion it was a recent crack and scuff marks and in their opinion has happened after the jeep was released to me. So obliviously I’m not happy to have to pay for a new tyre as I’m not a complete clown as if I kerbed the tyre I would know it with the impact to cause the crack and pinch in the tyre. But my question is there any way to determine how long a crack or scuff marks are on a tyre? Or am I at a game called nothing, any advice would be appreciated thank you as I don’t mind buying a tyre but not happy to be paying for something that I’m full sure that was through no fault of my own.

SOrry i dont have better news but it ll be hard to win this one. If it was me I would go back and do a bit of giving out though and say you will tell people around about their bad service. They might not want the hassle and might change it for you. No guarantees though.

Thank you Toyotaavensis, Yeah i went back to the garage but just knew that i was getting nowhere so I asked for the tyre to be changed to the back which they did for me, so I'll get it changed at the end of the month. It's just annoying as fair enough if I was buying privately I would double/trible check everything but from buying from a SIMI garage one would hope that you can buy with confidence. Thanks again for the advice as much appreciated.

The S.I.M.I. are nothing more than a country club of member car dealers and a lobby group with their own agenda. They have no interest in representing the consumer and very rarely rule against one of their own members.
